Bedtime

Well, tonight was one of those stressful nights for a new mommy. Harlee and I were out late watching American Idol with Sarah, Michelle, Whitney, and Cassie. (Congrats David Cook!) It's hard on nights like this because it's late and Harlee will fall asleep in the car on the way home, then I have to get her out and ready for bed and she doesn't like to go back to sleep.
So tonight instead of just being awake, she was also very upset. I could not get her to stop crying. I finally just laid her in her crib and let her cry. When Jeremy got up a while later she was still crying and he held her for a bit but had to work so had to put her back down. I tried the mobile, the pacifier but she just wanted to keep screaming. Finally I decided to try her favorite soundtrack, Ameli. Usually I hold her and dance with her to it to get her calmed down. She likes it really loud. But tonight instead of dancing with her I just left her in her bed but turned it up loud like usual. She had stopped crying before I was even out of the room! Wow, that worked better than I had expected. So now she is drifting peacefully through sleepy town while the beautiful music of Ameli plays in the background of her dreams.
I had to call my friend Corinne, who is the one who gave me the soundtrack in the first place, and say thank you. Maybe when she has a baby of her own she will understand the extent of my gratitude. Nothing like making a very ,very angry baby content.
I think, I might be getting this mommy thing down. I'm getting to know her better and my instincts are kicking in. I know it took me a minute to figure out what to do for her tonight, but I DID figure it out. She is clean, well fed, healthy, Happy, and most importantly, LOVED. I have wanted to be a mom for as long as I can remember and I feel good knowing that so far I'm doing a pretty good job. It will be interesting to see where the future takes us.
